Description

A self-portrait depicting her response to a miscarriage she had on July 4th in Detroit, MI beginning in her home and ending in
Henry Ford Hospital. Kahlo painted herself in the hospital bed umbilically connected to portrayals of her lost son, physiological
representations, and nature symbols set in a landscape of industrial Detroit. Kahlo clearly labeled the hospital name and date
on the bedframe and used a contrast in color intensity between the foreground and background to emphasize the dreary
nature of both the unfortunate experience and Detroit.
