Description

Playing on the French translation to the title as “woman house” or “house woman” this painting portrays a naked female figure with her head replaced by architectural form. Bourgeois uses color and line to draw attention to female specific form while showing the otherwise personally identifiable parts of the figure as domestic architecture. The figure shown as immobile and objectified while also maintaining a posture that suggests shamelessness in position.
