Fighting Against the Grid

Women in in art in the 20th Century fought against the grid (what society defined as women’s artwork) for their artwork to be seen and accepted. Many of these women including Morisot, Taeuber-Arp, O’Keefe, Höch, and Saint-Phalle created artworks that have surface appeal but when looked at through a critical lens, have depth and further meaning. Therefore, this exhibition, “Fighting Against the Grid”, represents how each of these woman artists’ works broke the mold and satisfied the artists’ own expectations.
