Taking advantage of the women's civil rights movement women artists rose to give their claims as well. With the movement women strated to speak out about the issues that were oppressing them. It was the start to recognizing women as much more than what they were recognized as. Through their works this artists started to send messages of oppression, showing how they were often oppressed by men and in other instances showing how they would not be opperessed anymore.

Radiator Building-Night, New York

Description: O’keeffe plays with lighting and structure to depict the American Radiator Building in New York. She used patterns and lightning to depict the building from a low vantage point, which overwhelms the viewer and conveys a sense of oppression. Through this painting she represents the skyscraper as a symbol of modern America. She uses this paint as an indirect message of oppression, creating awareness to what was happening at the moment.

Woman and Girl Driving

Mary Cassatt's work was an early idea of what the womens civil rights movement turned out to be. She showed a woman driving and the man in the back as the passenger. In this work she has reversed the roles women and men played in life.

For The Women's House

Faith Ringgold created this mural to give hope and show women playing different roles in life, woles that were considered to be carried out by men. She wanted to show how women were just as capable as men to do different things that were not related to house work.
