Great women artists in the 20th century were often forgotten or not taken seriously. This is why some of them took it upon themselves to make a change and make themselves noticeable. Most of these artists fought for change and equality, so that women artists could be considered just as good as men artists. Taking advantage of the social women’s civil rights movement that was happening at the time artists used the Avant-Garde movement, which pushed the boundaries of what was accepted as the norm, to express the idea that women could be just as great artists and also just as great in everyday life. Great women artists have always existed, but have not always been noticed, so these artists used their works to demonstrate the idea that they could also be great.
