Suzanne Valadon was a model, as well as an artist. This Self-Portrait in 1931 shows the look of a woman who is not happy to still be objectified. Valadon's early works showed women being objectified in the nude paintings that she did. In this Self-Portrait, she shows herself half nude and with a grim look on her face to show her displeasure. During the time of this work, Valadon was headed towards another divorce, this time with her son's friend. They divorced in 1934, this work could be a reflection of her feelings toward  that divorce because she felt objectified.
