For centuries, it would not have been believed that women would choose to explore or immerse themselves in the concept of violence. However, as artists, some women have shed this stereotype and faced the violent tendencies of humanity head on. Through their work, the strong female artists in this exhibition have opened the eyes of their audiences to the depths of human depravity and forced them to face it. Some embrace violence as a personal catharsis, while others work with violence to condemn the human race and force us to see ourselves as we truly are. Whatever the case may be, these female artists shake the centruies-old conception of femininity to its core. Although unpalatable, violence is an inescapable part of human nature. As such, it is ripe for analysis and representation in the art of the socially conscious and highly expressive artists in this exhibition.
